Cross (クロス, Kurosu) is the default name used on this wiki to designate the Avatar, the customizable playable character of 异度神剑X.They are created by the player and exists through 「解」 made during the game. They are sometimes referred to by 其它 characters as "Rook".

Story

Cross was one of the crew from an unspecified sector of the 白鲸. Cross landed on 米拉 by evacuating the ship in a 生命舱. Two months later, Cross's 生命舱 is discovered in 流星之谷, and they are woken up from stasis by 艾尔玛. Cross is the 唯一的幸存者 in the area, and has no memory of Earth or the 白鲸. 艾尔玛 brings Cross to NLA, and they become a member of the private military organization BLADE.

Customization

Cross is highly customizable, allowing players to choose the character's name, gender, face type, hairstyle and color, eye shape and color, voice, skin, etc. Player 魂控 can be switched from Cross to another party member, but Cross can never be removed from the party. Cross is the only character who can select their 部门 affiliation, as well as a Class, which decides the 武器 that they can wield. By completing 牵绊任务, Cross can learn 其它 characters' Signature Arts. Cross's signature arts are 火焰弹, 战斗号召, 恢复, 合金战甲 and 撕裂之刃.

Avatar Creation

By starting the game, the player creates an Avatar, a kind of alter ego. There are various features to combine in order to create the Avatar such as the name, the gender, the body size (and the bust size for a woman in the Japanese versions), the face type, the skin (skin color, freckles, cheeks, scars, moles), the hairstyle and hair color, the eyes shapes and colors, a make-up (eye shadow color, lip color, face paint), as well as the voice.

Trivia

Contrary to popular belief, Cross is not the official name for the avatar. The avatar does not have a default name in Japanese, English, and 其它 languages. The name "Cross" was used once in a Japanese footage from the Nintendo Direct aired on November 5, 2014. A fan translator mistook it as the official name for the avatar.
Cross's age is never specified besides in the concept art. There is an option for Cross to claim to be underage in certain alcohol-related conversations with 弗莱伊.
Cross's default avatar design is reminiscent of chaos from Xenosaga, specifically, his hairstyle. Chaos however has white hair, while Cross has red.
Cross is the only silent and customizable protagonist in the Xeno pan-series. Fei Fong Wong from Xenogears, Shion Uzuki from Xenosaga, Shulk from 异度神剑, Rex from 异度神剑 2, and Lora from Torna ~ The Golden Country are established characters with canon names, designs and personalities.

Eiji Miyashita, who provided the Avatar's Japanese 男性 "Hot-blooded" voice, also voiced Reyn in Japanese versions of the original 异度神剑.
Hideyuki Tanaka, who provided the Avatar's Japanese 男性 "Samurai" voice, also voiced Jin Uzuki in Japanese versions of the original Xenosaga and voiced Citan Uzuki in Japanese versions of the original Xenogears.
