A 河马
河马 (English dub: /ˈpɒt.ə.məs/) (Japanese: ヒッポ, Hippo) are gentle 敌人 in 异度神剑X dwelling close to watering holes. They are hippopotamus-like creatures.
The 诺彭 have domesticated Potamuses, using them as beasts of burden. They are a common sight near the various 商队.
Description
"These herbivorous, bank-dwelling creatures live in herds of one 男性 and 复数部位 女性, and spend a better part of their days in the water. 男性 are known for their territorial tendencies, driving off invaders with great animosity, though 女性 may also display similar traits when 其它 creatures approach their young."
"Equipped with mighty fangs and horns to match their temperaments, potamuses are actually more dangerous than many fiercer-looking carnivores. The 诺彭, however, have succeeded in domesticating them to haul freight."
Color Variants
河马 fall into two color variants:
- Dark Potamuses are dark grey-brown with pale red humps. They can drop 河马泥水.
- Light Potamuses are medium grey with pale green humps. They can drop 河马辛汁.

Etymology
河马 may be derived from hippopotamus, indicating the similarities with the animal.
Trivia
- The word 河马 is never heard by itself in the English dub of 异度神剑X, but its pronunciation is known from the longer word nopopotamus /ˌnoʊ.poˈpɒt.ə.məs/) which is heard in the dub. This 河马 component is pronounced the same as in the word hippopotamus anyway.
