The Titans of the world of Alrest

Titans (Japanese: 巨神獣, Kyoshin-jū, lit. Giant Divine Beasts, read as アルス, Arusu) are creatures in 异度神剑 2 and Torna ~ The Golden Country. Titans greatly vary in size, from small ones like Azurda and medium sized ones like the Titan Battleship rather used for transportation, to enormous ones such as Gormott, Uraya and Mor Ardain. These larger Titans serve as the landmasses that make up the world of 异度神剑 2. They march toward death, circling the World Tree in the world of Alrest overrun by a sea of clouds. Civilizations dwell on the Titan's backs, and many Nations have been established, ruling over the Titans. Each Nation is home to different cultures, various ecosystems, and diverse regions.

Story

It is revealed that Titans are actually Blades who have reached the end of their life-cycle and have become Titans. However they have no memory of their previous life as Blades. In turn Titans produce Core Crystals which become new Blades and eventually new Titans.

Notes

  • Spessia in Torna ~ The Golden Country is only alluded to as a Nation, but due to its similar naming as the Titans, it is believed Spessia was another Titan as well.
  • Estham in Torna ~ The Golden Country is mentioned by Mikhail in a cutscene where he first meets Lora, telling her he was sold to Torna from there, as well as Martha, who talks of traveling through 复数部位 continents to document the Unique Monster there. Fred also mentions that Estham was attacked in a similar fashion to Fetley Village not long ago.

Etymologies

  • Many of the Titans' names are allusions to the seven deadly sins.
  • Two Titan's names are allusions to the seven heavenly virtues, Leftherian Titans and Temperantia names refer to freedom/liberty and temperance/asceticism.
  • The two Titans Azurda and Genbu have name coming from two of the four Dragon 神 and two of the four symbols of the Chinese constellations like for the Blades Dromarch and Roc.
