Story

An illustration of Addam, Pyra, and the third sword
After the Aegis War, Addam, fearing Pneuma's power as channeled through Mythra, seals the third Aegis sword here until it may be found by a worthy Aegis Driver in the future. Here it remains for five hundred years, passed only into legends known by the royalty of the Kingdom of Tantal. The Vault lies undisturbed due to the difficulty of accessing the 精灵 Crucible.
Once Rex and the party learn of the third sword through King Eulogimenos, they decide to head into the 精灵 Crucible to find it in order to have the power to defeat Jin and rescue Pyra. They fight their way down to the Vault and find it guarded by 梦幻 of Addam; ghostly shades that duplicate themselves and fight with great skill. Despite the party's synergy, they cannot overcome the 梦幻 until Nia, no longer willing to watch people die to hide her secret, reverts to her Blade form and allows Rex to become her Driver.

Nia reveals herself as a Blade
With Nia's powers the party overcome the 梦幻, and Rex expresses his love for his friends when Nia tells him she 爱 for allowing her to free herself. When he goes to claim the Aegis sword, however, it shatters into dust, and Rex has a vision of Addam, who he speaks to; Addam asks him why he fights, and deems him suitable as Pyra and Mythra's Driver when he explains his that motives are to protect those he cares for. The understanding that he is the true Driver of the Aegis is a source of great clarity to Rex, who overcomes the distress of losing the third sword and resolves to go and fight Jin and Malos even without an Aegis Blade.
